We’ve set yet another milestone for phpBB Weekly with our 150th episode, which we fill to the brim with discussion of lots of exciting announcements!

The phpBB MOD Team launches a Summer of MODs Contest–just submit a MOD by early August (or write one of their suggested MODs) and you could be the winner of a phpBB shirt AND a Bertie Bear! We also note that Ascraeus’ feature freeze date has moved to July 18, giving the developers a bit more time to discuss and start working on new features for 3.1.

Then, this summer is going to be a huge summer of meetups for phpBB. We take a look at the announced details for Libertyvasion 2010, taking place August 20-21 in New York City. Douglas will be leading a short workshop there, alongside many other workshops by phpBB team members, alongside experts in Git, Symfony, and Doctrine, among others. Douglas also unveils the plans for OSCONvasion 2010, taking place on July 22 in Portland, Oregon, alongside the O’Reilly Open Source Convention (OSCON), where the phpBB teams will also be exhibiting. And Douglas also announces the public beta of BBvasion, his effort to ignite more phpBB community-based meetup events and usergroups in the near future.

The MOD of the Week is Gravatar Integration by SyntaxError90, and the Style of the Week is redsteel by vectra-mods.

Side-note: Douglas is interested in splitting the cost of a private room at the Big Apple Hostel on Friday/Saturday nights during Libertyvasion. If you’re interested, please let him know.

Be sure to join us next week and all summer for more great episodes of phpBB Weekly!

On This Episode: Douglas Bell (webmacster87) and David Lewis (Highway of Life)

David and Douglas played catch-up on this episode of phpBB Weekly, covering all of the big phpBB news from the month of April and the first half of May in one fell swoop.

We quickly touch on phpBB’s new warp drive and its new Styles Team Leader, as well as the release of UMIL 1.0.2 and AutoMOD 1.0.0-RC4. We do spend a bit more time discussing the new MODX Creator, an awesome new tool that automatically generates MODX install files by running a diff between two different versions of phpBB files, making it much easier for MOD authors to generate install files for their MODs.

Then in the curmudgeon category, David and Douglas spend some time discussing and exploring the new Bug Tracker and the new Development Wiki, both powered by Atlassian JIRA. David expresses a significant amount of disdain for both of these new tools and how they were implemented, and Douglas and the members of our chat room generally agree with him.

Finally, we take an extensive look at the release of Titania, phpBB.com’s new MODs/Styles Customization Database. David shares a bit of the history behind the project, and then we take a tour through the new features of Titania, particularly looking at the new individualized forums for each MOD and Style.

The MOD of the Week is phpBBasic by DavidIQ, and the Style of the Week is Digital by A1ex!.

Be sure to join us this Saturday for our sesquicentennial (150th) episode, including some big announcements!

On This Episode: Douglas Bell (Fountain of Apples) and David Lewis (Highway of Life), with guest Andy Singleton from Assembla

phpBB Weekly returns from its month-long hiatus by coolly ignoring all of the big news that has come out of the phpBB teams during our absence. (Don’t worry, we’ll play catch up on our next episode.)

Instead, we’re proud to welcome Andy Singleton, the President and Founder of Assembla to our show. Assembla is a great product for creating online workspaces for group project management, and is used by our friends at StarTrekGuide. We discuss a number of the beneficial features offered by Assembla, including their offering of free private Subversion/Git hosting, as well as using the ticket/milestone system to improve one’s development workflow, and how it can help facilitate bug and feature requests. In particular, we discuss how a system like Assembla can be useful to MOD authors, or for anyone trying to manage a project with numerous users, whether or not it involves a coding project.

The MOD of the Week is Lock Post on Report by kp3011, and the Style of the Week is poker_olympus by abble CoSa NoStrA.

Stay tuned all this summer for a great resurgence of phpBB Weekly episodes! And don’t worry, the episodes that are still pending release will come out on Thursday and Friday of this week.
