Bridging two applications is a challenge, primarily because both of them have been coded in completely different ways and you have to figure out how to make them work together. It's a lot like trying to be a translator for two people having a conversation.

Your idea about doing a beginner section is a good idea. The last time we did some real phpBB tutorials was back in 2007/08 when we first started the show, so it might not be a bad idea to do some more of that. I'll see if we can start doing that later this summer.

I will go and listen to this show (haven't been on board by that time). How much effort do you think it would take for someone with good knowledge of phpBB and WP to get something like this done?

I didn't use phpBB until recently when one of the site I did on WP had to integrate an existing forum on phpBB (and store with Magento).

Love your show by the way. Maybe you could do a short beginner section on each episode and explain one basic thing to know about phpBB for folks like myself.

Keep up the good work!

We're aware of WP United, and we actually interviewed its author on episode #111 last June.

However it does a particular kind of integration with WordPress, which it does by installing a phpBB MODification. It does not take advantage of some of the phpBB hooks intended for such integrations, the way RokBridge does for its phpBB-Joomla integration. Personally I'd be interested to see how an integration between WordPress & phpBB would work less as a site-blending form but more of a functionality-blending and userbase-blending instead, particularly now that WordPress 3.0 has multi-site support built-in.

Just wanted to let you guys know that there is a bridge for WP and phpBB called WP United. Seems to be rather complicated though and having issues mainly with the shared users.
